Dr. Erika D. Tate poured into her local community, delivering the keynote, “I Know from Learning” at Elevate Savannah’s inaugural Girls Day Conference in Savannah, Georgia.
Dr. Tate addressed 25+ youth girls and youth supporters and inspired them to:
- Know Yourself: Emphasizing the importance of self-awareness and urging the young attendees to listen to their inner voices and follow their hearts. By understanding themselves, they can confidently pursue their dreams, while also inviting others to support and uplift them along the way.
- Know your Places: Highlighting the significance of understanding one’s community. By acknowledging the needs and experiences of those around them, the girls can actively work towards positive change and social justice. Dr. Tate encouraged them to become advocates in their communities.
- Know your People: Underscoring the importance of listening to others and creating space for their stories to be heard. By valuing the voices and experiences of those around them, the girls can cultivate meaningful connections and foster a sense of belonging within their growing social circles.
Throughout the talk, the girls were asked to pause and reflect about what they want to do now and in the future, the change they want to create in their community, and who inspires and supports them.
Dr. Tate’s message was an inspiring reminder that with a practice of reflection, you will continue learning to know yourself, your places, and your people. And what you do not know, you will know from learning.
