Dr. Erika D. Tate Delivers an Equity-Driven, Inspiring Keynote to New Teachers in Savannah, Georgia!

… choosing to teach, on purpose and with purpose, so you can change the lives of students who will one day change the world.

–Dr. Erika D. Tate

Dr. Erika D. Tate delivered the keynote for the Savannah- Chatham County Public School Systems (SCCPSS) THRIVE! Professional Learning Conference in Savannah, Georgia. Over two days, she addressed 200+ first- and second-year teachers and empowered their commitment to the pursuit of instructional equity.

Dr. Tate welcomed our newest teachers into the education field and engage them as reflective practitioners. Through story, examples, and reflective questions, she encouraged teachers to

  • Build their knowledge about how systemic and structural racism has led to educational inequities.
  • Consider how their beliefs and instructional practices shape the learning experiences of students in their classrooms.
  • Commit to building an inclusive learning community that welcomes students’ lived experiences and planning with purpose in order to position students as resources for learning.

Her message was an inspiring reminder that the decision to teach is one of the most important and impactful pathways for creating change that makes our world a more just place.
